Management Experience

Thomas F. O'Shaughnessy, President of Students Trust International and O'Shaughnessy Education Foundation brings over 18 years of experience in the management and administration of education savings plans in Canada.

As Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Canadian Scholarship Trust Plan, the largest education trust in Canada with over $1 billion in assets, Mr. O'Shaughnessy played the leading role in expanding investment options for plans, spearheading the introduction of new plan features and streamlining the plan administration process.

A strong supporter of access to education for all Canadians, Mr. O'Shaughnessy was instrumental in developing changes to government legislation of education trust plans (called RESPs in Canada) that now makes them the most popular way for Canadians to save for a child's college or university education.

Mr. O'Shaughnessy also served as Chairman of the RESP Dealers Association of Canada, an organization representing $3 billion dollars in education plan assets and 750,000 subscribers.

Often consulted by both the Federal and Provincial governments and regulators on education savings plans, Mr. O'Shaughnessy has been widely quoted in Canada's leading newspapers and business publications as well as appearing on television and radio.

Mr. O'Shaughnessy is a chartered accountant with a degree in economics from the University of Western Ontario. He also holds several Securities designations including The Partners, Directors and Senior Officers Qualification from the Canadian Securities Institute.
